It should be done at least 1-2 times per year. You should at least wash it down with a garden hose every 6-12 months.  3 Main Culprits That Make Your Siding Unclean  There are three main responsible for the filthy buildup on the siding of your home:
  1. Dirt
  1. Grease
  1. Mold/Mildew
1. How to Clean Dirt from Your Home’s Siding  Here in Texas, the winter winds and thunderstorms tend to kick up a lot of dirt and dust. And, it clings well to the siding of your home. Use the following to get all that muck off of the exterior of the house:
  • Soft brush
  • Soft cloth
  • Garden hose
Never use an abrasive sponge or a hard metal brush to clean dirt from siding. These tools cause damage to the siding’s finish.  Using a Brush  Brush the surface dirt and dust off of the siding. Then, use the garden hose to rinse the area.   Using a Cloth  Wet your cloth and use side-to-side motion to wipe down the area in the direction of the panel, shingle or plank siding. Once it’s clean, rinse with water.  2. How to Clean Grease, Oil & Other Organics from Your Home’s Siding  Your siding may become dirty from greasy fingers and oily hands. Gather the following items to remove greasy, oily contaminants from your siding:
  • Soft cloth
  • Garden hose
  • Water
  • Mild dishwashing liquid
Create soapy water using the dishwashing liquid. Soak the soft cloth in it, and use it to clean your stained siding. Be sure to rinse your soft cloth often. Then, use the garden hose to rinse the soapy water away.   3. How to Clean Mold & Mildew from Your Home’s Siding  Both mold and mildew can look like dirt sometimes. Therefore, it’s vital that you inspect your shingles, panels and planks during siding cleaning time to check for mildew and mold. If you find some, gather these items to clean it away:
  • Soft cloth
  • Garden hose
  • Water
  • Mildew-specific cleaner
It is very important that you follow the directions on the mildew-specific cleaner. Use your soft cloth to remove any mold or mildew from the siding of your home. Rinse the area when done using the garden hose.   Replace Your San Antonio Home’s Siding  Is it time to replace your home’s siding?
